The Doughty Bequest
In the 1960’s a former Lauder solicitor and church elder Alan C Doughty Esq left a legacy for the benefit of the children of the parish, based on the traditional summer trip to the coast and a Christmas Treat for all children in the parish of Lauder.
Time has altered the manner by which the legacy supports the young of the parish. A Court of Session judgement in 1968 widened the way in which the legacy might be spent. Initially some £15000 formed the Doughty legacy, the total now sits around £60,000 releasing interest annually in support of residential experiences organised by Lauder and Channelkirk Primary Schools and the Parish Treat for all ages from toddlers to early secondary school.
In addition the Church Sunday Club receives funds towards resources. Occasionally small grants are awarded in support of youth projects considered in keeping with the spirit of the legacy. The elders of the Church form the Trustees.
