In Luke chapter 2 at v 11, we read: ‘Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you ; He is the Messiah the Lord ‘ .
The first ‘Christmas’ was a party. All the members of David’s clan along with others were summoned to Bethlehem. by Caesar Augustus to be registered in a general census. The town was crowded, no wonder the local inn was full and there was a lotof noise and activity.
It must have been an act of kindness on the part of the innkeeper to offer Mary and Joseph the use of the stable so that they could have a quiet place rest. He only saw them as a young couple who were tired after their travels. He wasn’t to know the significance of what was going to happen in his stable. The only people who knew what had really happened were Mary and Joseph. The greatest event in human history happened in secret. In these primitive conditions,
Jesus the Christ, the Saviour of the world, the Son of God was born.
For those who know and understand the secret, Christmas is different now. It is, not just the birthday of a child with a party. The life given at Bethlehem was given for us at Calvary.
All people, black, white, eastern western rich and poor can celebrate this day when
the Son of God was born into the human family to make us free. Now, is that not a good reason to have a party ?
