The schools in Scotland have started to go back this week. This has to be welcomed as it is important that children receive a sound education from dedicated teachers which will prepare them for life. In Scotland the state is mainly responsible for providing education, including Christian Education. If the Christian component in this provision was increased the pupils would gain a greater understanding of the world in which they live. They would come to have a fuller understanding of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, they would also come to a belief in God as Creator of this world and all that is in it, this would add depth to their understanding of life and prepare them more fully for their future.
Accepting God as Creator would lead our children to understand that they are as tenants of this world and not the landlord, in this knowledge they would grow up to be good stewards of the world’s resources : They would be kind to people and to the planet.
Where there is a limitation on teaching on teaching Christian education in schools, the Church and parents must take the necessary steps to make up for this deficit. It is the duty of Christian parents to teach their children about the Christian faith. What responsible parents would not want to share their faith with their children ?
